November Event

by Sue Woodhouse | Nov 2, 2025 | events, News, Welcome

Wednesday 12th November

EGM at 10.30 a.m, talk at 11:00am followed by Mince Pies at 12.

Samlesbury Memorial Hall, Cuerdale Ln, Walton-le-Dale, Samlesbury, Preston PR5 0UY

With 23,000 locations in 150 countries, CWGC is probably the largest horticultural operation worldwide, encompassing all of the world’s ecosystems and climates each with their unique challenges.

Many of us will have had occasion to visit CWGC sites in France and Belgium and to admire the way they are immaculately maintained and provide a dignified and peaceful resting place for the fallen.

Jim will tell us about cemeteries further afield and the choice of appropriate planting for the various locations.  Clearly, this must take into account such factors as climate, soil quality, abundance or lack of water and increasingly, problems of climate change.

This promises to be an eye-opening talk and seems appropriate for this time of Remembrance.
