Lancashire
Gardens Trust
Education
The general aim of the Lancashire Gardens Trust is to study, record, promote and protect examples of designed landscapes within the County of Lancashire.

Grants
We wish to engage with Lancashire universities, colleges and schools through a system of grants to further the above aim. This has been made possible by generous bequests to the Trust and the support of our members.

The Audrey Dawson Award
is allocated to help students of landscape architecture at institutions such as Lancaster University and Myrescough College.

Projects
The Trust has also provided small grants to some Lancashire schools to help fund their landscape projects.
Award Criteria
What are our criteria for awarding a grant?
- To support a project aimed at raising awareness, particularly through appearance and position of the designed landscape.
- To support a project aimed at enabling adults and/or young people to appreciate the role of design and plants in promoting the landscape.
- To support a project aimed at enabling adults and/or young people to understand how to design, plant and maintain a landscape either large or small, old or new.
- To support a project which enables groups of adults and/or young people to acquire the skills necessary to design, plant and maintain a landscape either large or small, old or new.
- To provide feedback to Lancashire Gardens Trust on your project.
Benefit
Who can benefit from the grant?
You could benefit if you have a project that is in Lancashire.
Any group, school or university with limited funds or expertise to complete their projects may apply.
Any ‘friends’ groups involved in projects recognised as impacting on the historic designed landscapes of Lancashire may also qualify.
Purpose
How should the money be used?
- On anything that would aid the purpose and completion of the project i.e. tools; plants; education through information boards; lessons; assistance grants for students etc.
Myrescough College’s Trip To Bodnant
This year, the students were very eager to go on trips. News had spread of last year’s adventures, and we were able to take nearly 40 students to Bodnant. When asked which gardens they would most like to visit, Bodnant topped the list, with some students keen to make a return visit to see the bits they’d missed previously.
