Monday 22nd June, 11:00am – Hilltop, Spout Lane, Wennington, Lancaster
Maggy Howarth (1945 – 2025) set up her pebble mosaic studio over forty years ago. The business is on the outskirts of the small village of Wennington in the Lune Valley approximately 12 miles from M6 Junction 34.
The excellent website www.maggyhowarth.co.uk explains that the studio ‘has been built upon the principles of artistic integrity, innovation and a celebration of the natural world’. Considerable artistic and craft skills are involved in all aspects of the work. The studio’s work has been commissioned and exported across the world. Significant local examples are at Williamson Park, Lancaster; and Gresgarth Hall.
This is a very special opportunity to see the design process and also the manufacture explained at first hand, by George Howarth who now runs the business.
Event details
The cost is £30.00 for members, and £33.00 for non members. Please make sure you have suitable footwear as this is a working business and manufacturing site. Visitors are responsible for their own safety. No dogs are allowed other than support dogs.
Afterwards:
It is suggested that visitors bring a picnic and we can stop for this at the Grade II* listed St James the Less parish Church at Tatham, located on Monks Gate, LA2 8NH. This is located between Wennington and Wray. There is ample car parking at the Church and tea and coffee and cake (cost included in the event charge) will be available in the Church as well as toilet facilities. Tatham was the ancestral family home of one of Lancashire Gardens Trust’s founder members Audrey Dawson, who had long connections with the locality and the Church.
Alternatively there are several local hostelries who can provide lunches and refreshments.
