The Mount, Fleetwood
We are delighted to share the news that Wyre Council have been awarded a £2 million grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund to continue its work to revive the Mount Pavilion and Gardens in Fleetwood. For full details read the announcement here

Calling all members of the National Trust - will you help us?

In its review of nominating bodies to their Council, the National Trust has advised that we, the Gardens Trust, will appear on the ballot paper but will not be a ‘recommended’ organisation to remain on the Council. If we are not re-elected to Council, the Gardens Trust, as the Government’s Statutory Consultee, will no longer have a voice within the National Trust regarding over 250 historic landscapes in its care.
Gardens Trust and County Gardens Trust members, and our other supporters, who are also members of the National Trust, have a chance to ensure that our views on historic landscapes continue to guide the National Trust’s work by using your vote to champion the Gardens Trust to remain a vocal and effective member of National Trust Council.
We all need to remain vigilant and work collaboratively with professionals, our members and County Gardens Trusts who have a major role to play in protecting these sites for future generations to enjoy.
The National Trust’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 20 October 2018 at the STEAM Museum in Swindon. Information will be sent to National Trust members and available on their website from early September. Last year there were only about 30,000 members using their vote, out of a total of 5 million+ members. Please could I ask you if you are a National Trust member to take a few moments to return the ballot papers and to vote FOR the Gardens Trust continuing to have a representative on Council. Your vote will make a difference!
With many thanks for your support,

Dr James Bartos

Memorial Service for Patrice Fustier of Courson, 16th November, London

Patrice Fustier died on 13th of June this year.   He and his wife Helene, founded the great garden fair at Courson.  https://parisdiarybylaure.com/from-courson-to-chantilly-a-princely-triumph/.
A letter from Richard Storey regarding the service:

When Patrice Fustier died in June, I mooted a memorial service for him in London. This idea received some support and was strongly welcomed by Hélène.  Problems were raised concerning paying for it, so I agreed to shoulder the very few hundred pounds necessary for the service (choir, organist, rector etc).
I had experienced a really wonderful memorial service held in the beautiful small church of St Magnus the Martyr (London Bridge) very near the truly magnificent Fishmongers’ Hall, where the reception was held – a really marvelous
occasion.  It has now proved possible to provide all that is needed to hold such a service for Patrice at St Magnus and a reception at the Fishmongers’ Hall on:

Friday 16th November 2018

I should mention that the rector is very high Anglican church (and allegedly is the last member of the Church of England clergy to entitle himself Cardinal Rector) which should be appropriate for Patrice, a Roman Catholic.  16th November is the only available date for these events.
This letter is being sent to you and others with the hope that some will wish to attend on 16th November and please would you tell this to others (and especially to include in any journal/newsletter, electronic or otherwise, with which you are in any way connected) and please, further, would all with anything to do with the events being planned for Chantilly 2018, designed to honour and remember Patrice, bear in mind this proposed November memorial service.
I am hoping to give this as wide an audience as possible and therefore am including IDS, RHS, Garden Society, and Cécile Lapoyade is very kindly going to send this as far as possible to exhibitors.
With all best wishes
Richard Storey
Please note: Sir Richard's office is dealing with the service and the email for anyone to reply is to  Barley Jarrett - Storey office mail to: storey.london@btinternet.com
